Buying for an organization? Per-employee pricing and one company code for your whole team → For organizations

Most people can name a few employment laws and could not tell you what any of them actually require. This course walks through what it calls the “alphabet soup” of employment law in plain language, so you can see how the pieces fit together. It is the course’s own account of these laws, not legal advice.

It covers Title VII of the Civil Rights Act and four laws that sit alongside it: the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. The through-line is a correction most workplaces need — discrimination is not limited to hiring and firing. It reaches every term and condition of employment, from the applicant stage through to retirement: discipline, promotion, work assignments, and how attendance rules get enforced.

You will also learn what “protected class” really covers, and it is wider than most people assume: that every employee belongs to at least three protected classes; that race includes characteristics associated with race, such as hairstyle; that color and national origin are separate grounds, and national origin reaches a person’s accent; and that being treated differently because of who you are married to or related to is itself discrimination — what the course calls an “association claim”.

Who it’s for: every employee, and anyone who makes or influences employment decisions.

Common questions

Which laws does it cover?

This is the course's own account of these laws and not legal advice. It covers Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, plus four laws that sit alongside it: the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. The course calls this the alphabet soup of employment law and takes it apart in plain language.

Is discrimination only about hiring and firing?

No, and that is the correction the course is built around. It teaches that Title VII reaches every term and condition of employment, from the applicant stage through to retirement, including discipline, promotion, work assignments and how attendance rules are enforced.

What counts as a protected class?

More than most people assume. The course teaches that every employee belongs to at least three protected classes; that race includes characteristics associated with race, such as hairstyle; that color and national origin are separate grounds, and national origin reaches a person's accent; and that being treated differently because of who you are married to or related to is itself discrimination, which it calls an association claim.

Which of the ten courses does my organisation need?

Everyone takes the same starting point: Sexual Harassment (Employee). Anyone who supervises people adds the Supervisor Supplement on top of it — supervisors are held to a higher standard and that course is about what to do once you know. This one is the employment-law frame behind all of them — Title VII and the four laws alongside it — and it suits everyone, particularly anyone who makes or influences employment decisions. You do not have to work this out per person: when your people join with your company code they give their work state and say whether they supervise anyone, and the rules assign what each of them owes from that.

Can I buy this for my whole team, and do I assign it person by person?

You can buy it for a team: set the number of seats on this page before adding to cart. And no, you do not assign it person by person — that is not how the platform works. Your people join with your company code, give their work state and city and say whether they supervise anyone, and the training rules decide what each of them owes from that — which is how a multi-state employer gets the right course to the right person without anyone maintaining a list. You hand out one code instead of picking names off a list. Seats are issued for 12 months.

Who is it for, and how is it structured?

Every employee, and anyone who makes or influences employment decisions. 9 video chapters with 8 knowledge checks. Progress saves as you go and a certificate is issued on completion.
